The Authors on this site are divided into three sections. The main Authors section contains the writers of Naval Fiction, the Related Authors section contains Authors who have written books such as Naval Fiction/Fantasy mixes or one naval book within a land based series, and the Other Authors section contains everyone else such as non-fiction and modern era authors

    Authors A-Z

    Ship-of-the-LineDetails of the authors together with chronological lists of their works are available from the full alphabetical index below . Authors are listed under their forename or initials i.e. 'C.S. Forester' can be found under 'C'. You can browse through the authors by using 'Next' and 'Prev'.

    For more detailed information on individual books you can follow the links from within the authors record or use the 'Book Title Index' in the left hand menu.

    To see how the various books fit with each other and with historic events a timeline is also available. The index includes books from the age of sail and the transition to steam period up to the early 1900’s.

    To reduce the list below you may type part of the authors name in the filter and enter. If you still can not find what you are looking for please try a search. There are also sections for related authors whos' books are on the periphery of HNF and for other related sub genre's such as Royal Marines. Some authors may appear in more than one list. Please use the menu on the left to select these sections.

    This section lists sundry authors on the periphery of HNF such as those who have written:

    • single HNF novel within a land based series
    • single novels where the major proportion is land based
    • novels which have an HNF setting but are, for example, mystery novels or naval novels set on a fantasy world.
    • other works considered to be on the periphery of HNF.
    • other novels not considered appropriate for the main index.
  • Other Authors

    This section includes all authors not listed under the main 'Historic Naval Fiction Authors, i.e those who have just written Non-Fiction, Pirate Fiction, Modern Era works, etc. As some authors write in more than one genre to see those authors who are relevant to your interest it is recommended that you navigate using the left hand menu and use the sub-menus under Authors A-Z.
