C. S. Forester

The original and much imitated series of books is that written by C. S. Forester (Cecil Scott Forester 1899-1966) about Horatio Hornblower. Among Forester’s many novels were a stand alone HNF one.
The series is mainly set within the period of the great wars with France during which our hero is promoted from Midshipman to Commodore & a peer of the realm. Books from the series have been made into films and television series.
