George Abercrombie Fox: Born London, 29th September, 1765. Second child in a family of ten. Named after his uncle, who was hanged at Tyburn. Joined navy as a 'powder-monkey' in 1775. Finally gazetted Lieutenant in 1793. Possessed of enormous talent and courage. Virtually devoid of noble patronage. Still a lieutenant in 1800
