Mary Malloy

Mary Malloy teaches maritime history and literature at the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and Museum Studies at Harvard University. She is the author of several works of nautical nonfiction. Her book 'Devil on the Deep Blue Sea: The Notorious Career of Captain Samuel Hill of Boston' won the 2006 Lyman Award for maritime biography.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Malloy has a degree in music from the University of Washington, an M.A. in history and American studies from Boston College, and an M.A. in museum studies and Ph.D.in American studies from Brown University. She has performed the music of American sailors, and lectured extensively at colleges and museums in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia.
