Charles Nordhoff (1830-1901)

Charles Nordhoff , 1830-1901, was an American journalist and author, born in Westphalia. After emigrating with his family to Cincinnati in 1835 he served in the US Navy (1844-47) and later on whaling and fishing ships. As well as a journalist and author he was a leading political commentator of his day.

His grandson, Charles Bernard Nordhoff (1887-1947) was also an HNF author, writing  with J. N. Hall.
