This novel traces events aboard the frigate Regenerate (Defiant) during the great mutiny of 1797. It is sent to the Mediterranean with crew members aware of the plot for the Channel Fleet to Mutiny. Cut off from news of what is happening at home the sadistic actions of the first lieutenant eventually drive the men to mutiny. (‘Mutiny' was later made into the film released as 'HMS Defiant'' in the UK and Damn the Defiant' in the US. Some subsequent prints of the novel were released as 'HMS Defiant' although it is once again back in print as 'Mutiny'. The original work was about the frigate Regenerate.) |
