It is based on a work by Herman Melville of the same Configure Edit Screenname. The film was a Allied Artists Pictures one and starred Terence Stamp in the title role and Robert Ryan as his nemesis, the Master at Arms. It was produced, directed, and co-written by Peter Ustinov.
