Hurricane Harbour: A novel of the young Horatio Nelson

A novel based on fact concerning events in English Harbour, Antigua, during the hurricane season of 1784 when young Captain Horatio Nelson caused a major storm by enforcing the navigation laws and seizing illegal shipping from America. This action caused great anger among the Leeward Islands as it hit the pockets of local merchants and plantation owners. Nelson was forced to remain on-board his ship for much of the time in fear of his life should he venture ashore. The story also surrounds the Governor of Antigua, Colonel Shirley, and Moutray, Commissioner of the Dockyard, and the latter s pretty young wife under whose spell Nelson fell, and who proved a welcome distraction during the long months when ships were confined to the sweltering heat of malaria-infested English Harbour sheltering from hurricanes
