David Barrie studied Experimental Psychology and Philosophy at Oxford University. His working life has been quite varied: the list of jobs includes deck hand, diplomat, intelligence analyst, arts administrator and criminal justice campaigner.
He is married with two daughters, based in London,. and is the great great nephew of the playwright, J.M. Barrie (Peter Pan). His book Incredible Journeys (UK) or Supernavigators, published in 2019 about the navigation of animals, was chosen as Nature Book of the Year by The Sunday Times. It was honoured with both a Gold and Silver Nautilus Award in 2020 and the Royal Institute of Navigation has honoured it with their Certificate of Achievement.
